They've been criticised by commentators and viewers, but Stars in their Eyes contestants are a hit with a Kiwi lookalike company.

Caroline Lekstrom, who performed as Shakira, and Lili Latham, who appeared as Blondie singer Debbie Harry, have been snapped up by Tornado Entertainment.

Owner and director Gary Brown, himself an Austin Powers performer, said the show had been great for increasing the profile of impersonators in New Zealand.

Freddie Mercury, Elton John, ABBA, Madonna, Cher and Austin Powers had heard about the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport visiting Taupo and didn’t want to miss out on the action. Sadly for ardent fans of these superstars it was not the real thing when the Las Vegas All Stars took to the stage in the Hole. Despite this the look-al-likes came up trumps in the sound department with Freddie getting the crowd going with We Will Rock You, Elton doing Saturday Nights All Right for Fighting and Austin proving he is an international man of mystery by belting out I’m A Believer.
